Exercise: Getting Started Graham Brown, Exercise Specialist

As we wave goodbye to 2014 and jump into 2015, there is no better time to become more physically active! The benefits of regular exercise are endless; ranging from reduced risks for heart disease, aiding in recovery from some forms of cancer, alleviating symptoms of arthritis, and even preventing and reversing depression. Of course, if you want to cash in on these benefits, you must get moving, and keep moving! This doesn’t necessarily mean sticking to a strict regimen at the gym. You are able to get rewarded from a variety of types and levels of exercise. What is important is that is not only convenient for you, but also enjoyable. This allows us to be more successful with the lifestyle change.

With any sort of new exercise program, you want to progress slowly. Aim to increase your time to 30 minutes per day, on most if not all days of the week. Incorporating different modes of exercise can make it fun and entertaining. Pencil in the times for your sessions onto a calendar, or find a buddy to exercise with! All of these together will create an environment for success, leading you to a happy and healthy year in 2015!
